About the Federation

Who we are

The umbrella body for the chambers of commerce and industry in the Syrian governorates — overview, structure and areas of work.

The Federation of Syrian Chambers of Commerce is the umbrella body for the chambers of commerce and industry in the Syrian governorates. The Federation represents the commercial sector before official bodies, coordinates among its member chambers, and works to develop the business environment and facilitate trade within Syria and abroad.

The network

The Federation brings together twelve chambers of commerce and industry covering the Syrian governorates. The oldest is the Damascus Chamber of Commerce, founded in 1840, followed by the Aleppo Chamber of Commerce in 1885, down to the Quneitra Chamber of Commerce and Industry in 1989 — a history of organised institutional work spanning more than a century and a half.

Structure

  • The Board of Directors — seventeen members who set the Federation's policy and oversee its implementation.
  • Specialised committees — fourteen sector committees that work on specific issues and submit their recommendations to the Board of Directors.
  • Joint business councils — ten councils dedicated to developing economic relations with partner countries.

Areas of work

  • Representing the commercial sector and conveying its views on economic legislation and decisions.
  • Coordinating among the chambers and unifying the procedures and services offered to their members.
  • Organising exhibitions and events, and taking part in exhibitions abroad.
  • Building relations with counterpart federations and chambers through the joint business councils.
  • Making available the laws and legislation governing the work of the chambers and the commercial sector.
